TIPS FOR PROOF APPROVAL

    1. Make sure the proof is the correct size and that it is at 100%.
    2. Make sure that all the elements of the graphic design are present: text, images (photos & illustrations), background, etc. Watch out for missing elements which normally occur due to file incompatibility.
    3. Copy should have been proofread and checked for accuracy before this step, but it is a good idea to check it again to be sure. Check spellings, and punctuation marks.
    4. Check the font. Are the typeface choices, point sizes and positions in order? Is the kerning (space between letters) and leading (space between lines) in order?
    5. Check margins if they are in order. Are bleed images as they should be? Are allowances in order?
    6. Check all of the images. Are they clear and sharp with good color? Are they the correct image for the particular position? Are there any distortions in proportion (height vs. width)?
    7. Check for scratches, spots or any other marks that would be on the images.
    8. Make sure the proof is in register by checking the registration marks.
Make sure alignment of text and images is achieved against the paper.
    9. Check the color. Remember that digital proofs are not accurate color renditions of offset runs. They are merely approximates. Color deviations are due to the different ink media used for digital printers vs. offset printers. Digital printers may also lack calibration needed to approximate actual CMYK color assignments.
    10. For a more accurate color proof, request for a color progressive or press proof which the printer can supply for an additional cost.
